The Challenge

The Clay and Paper team approached me with a frustrating issue: their contact form wasn’t working, and they needed a custom script to handle online orders and client inquiries.

After reviewing the technology stack, I discovered their website was built on the GoDaddy Website Builder, a platform that doesn’t allow custom scripting or backend code. This meant they couldn’t resolve the issue using typical developer tools — no PHP, no custom JavaScript, and no logic enhancements.

Turning Limitations into Opportunities

Instead of applying a limited workaround, I suggested a smarter, scalable solution: migrating the site to WordPress.

Why WordPress?

  1. It’s open-source and extremely customizable
  2. Supports robust plugins and custom scripts
  3. Costs less over time compared to GoDaddy Builder
  4. Offers full design freedom for improved UX/UI

Once I presented the benefits and a cost breakdown (including hosting vs. GoDaddy fees), the client agreed to move forward. Not only did they want the migration, but they also asked me to completely redesign the website to make it more visually engaging for their kindergarten-focused audience.

My Solution & Tech Stack

I delivered a full transformation, built from the ground up with performance, design, and usability in mind.

What I did:

  1. Migrated their entire site to WordPress
  2. Designed a kid-friendly UX/UI layout from scratch
  3. Integrated responsive contact and order forms
  4. Built a custom PHP back panel for lead tracking
  5. Connected a payment gateway for online orders
  6. Implemented on-page SEO for better visibility
  7. Optimized the website for fast load times
  8. Used WPBakery Page Builder to mimic their old builder and make editing easy for them

To bridge the client’s unfamiliarity with WordPress, I also created training resources and documentation, ensuring they felt confident managing their new website.
