The Challenge

The client approached us with a large corporate website built on TYPO3 — a powerful but outdated and complex CMS for their current needs. The site had become difficult to maintain, expensive to scale, and required developer intervention even for minor content updates. Moreover, it lacked mobile optimization and did not align with current SEO or performance standards. The goal was to migrate the entire platform to WordPress without losing functionality, SEO value, or content structure — and to empower non-technical users to manage content easily moving forward.

Turning Pain Points into Admin Power

The client’s internal team struggled with TYPO3’s rigid backend, which was overengineered for their marketing workflows. Each content update involved multiple steps and, often, a developer. They needed a solution that combined flexibility, performance, and simplicity.

My Solution & Tech Stack

We executed a full-scale migration, re-architecting the site on WordPress while matching the content hierarchy, design, and page structure. I chose Advanced Custom Fields PRO (ACF PRO) to build a modular and intuitive admin panel, giving the client full control over their pages with predefined layout blocks.

Key Challenges & How I Solved Them

Data Migration from TYPO3 to WordPress
Challenge: Content in TYPO3 was stored in a deeply nested structure with custom fields.
Solution: I wrote a custom migration script to extract, normalize, and import content into WordPress custom post types using the REST API and WP-CLI.
Maintaining SEO Equity
Challenge: The client had strong organic rankings and did not want to lose SEO juice.
Solution: I mapped all existing URLs and used 301 redirects for non-matching slugs. I preserved meta titles, schema markup, and implemented technical SEO improvements via Yoast.
Design Matching & Responsiveness
Challenge: The existing TYPO3 site was desktop-heavy and broke on mobile.
Solution: I rebuilt the frontend using Tailwind CSS for mobile-first responsiveness, improving the Core Web Vitals across all major templates.
Flexible Admin Panel
Challenge: Editors needed drag-and-drop flexibility without breaking design.
Solution: I used ACF PRO’s Flexible Content Fields to create dynamic layout blocks like text + image, CTA, tabs, testimonials, etc., which the team could reorder, duplicate, or disable easily.
